The Legend Of Mr. Black
HAPPY ALMOST THANKSGIVING! Much like a lot of us who were raised in retail stores throughout the 80s and 90s, I know at least one person who was trampled to death because of a Tickle Me Elmo or a Green Power Ranger on Black Friday. Also, like a lot of you, Black Friday seems to be the mile-marker for the holidays. And for that reason, I really wanted to get into the “spirit” of things for this Black Friday.
And I did so by finally getting something off of my chest. No, I didn’t remove my nipples again. Instead, I admitted to hiring a literal ghost-writer for years to design my previous Black Friday releases. You see, between Comic Con, Designer Con, Mondo Con, July through November is always the busiest time of the year for me, but I know that it’s not fair to have all these cool things released at conventions that only a fraction of people can make it to, so I REALLY want to always have some cool new merch for YOU, my beautiful internet smurfs, the most supportive gang of fans and friends ever!
A few years ago, I heard a really vague and unbelievable tale, told to me by the guy who made Ziggy (yes, a human made Ziggy), about a supernatural ghoul, named Mr. Black, who loved graphic design but was unable to exist in our earthly plane to take any jobs. However, as this odd legend has it, if you are feeling stressed about a design deadline, or are experiencing artist’s block, or simply can’t figure out how to finalize your sketchy idea for a product, all you have to do is leave a written list of your ideas and art needs, alongside some bread and a full stick of butter under your bed (or sleeping bag), and when you wake up, the bread and butter will be replaced by a hard drive filled with new art and designs that similarly look like you are the one who made them! Of course I didn’t believe it, seeing as how no ghoul or ghost could draw Ziggy so easily (have you ever tried? That nose is an insanely impossible curve), but there was a time in my life, a few Black Fridays ago, that I simply ran out of options. I needed to create new products, but I was out of time and out of energy. So I tried it…..
And I woke up to a miracle. A small hard drive filled with images that looked exactly as if Alexis Machine from the Dark Half had possessed my hands while I was sleeping and created art that only I could have created. Although I didn’t believe it, I took it and ran with it. And it worked like a charm. I never looked back. But also, I never saw him to thank him. Instead, over the years, I grew addicted to calling upon Mr. Black. It was the same feeling I had when I downloaded my first movie off of Kazzaa. It was maniacally easy. So I selfishly just defaulted to throwing bread and butter under my bed during any period of art-related stress. Mr. Black created the Astralnauts. Mr. Black drew half of my #DickTracing pieces. Mr. Black even redesigned my website last year. And the entire time I was blinded by his gift and never once shared his talents with you out of shame. Until last week. It feels good to say that the embodiment of a nightmare who only eats carbs is the real talent behind some of the images that you have grown to love. Because I love them, too, and I want him to finally get the credit he deserves. The fact that his last note was pretty threatening had nothing to do with this reveal. I totally wanted to do it.
So this year, to honor Mr. Black, I, once again, had him design some new stuff for Black Friday, and instead of taking all of the credit, I am just going to take most of it, and then call the sale “Mr. Black Friday” so he can feel included for once. YOU HEAR THAT, YOU BUTTER-CHOMPING GHOUL!? I’M GIVING YOU CREDIT!

"I'M MR. BLACK AND I LIVE IN A SACK..."
I hate to admit it, but this month the guilt is too much for me to bear, and it’s finally time that I come clean about something. Every year, around October, I try really hard to create and release some fun, new, unique products to later sell on Black Friday in November. But the truth is, for the last few years, because I have been so overwhelmed, it actually hasn’t been ME who’s been creating those products.
As hard as this is for me to admit it, the truth is, although it IS my art that is being used for the most part, my Black Friday releases have actually been designed and created by someone else, and this year I would like to give him the proper credit that he has deserved, even though he has never demanded it. At least, not to my face.
His name is MR. BLACK. And he lives…in a sack. Or a body bag. That’s all I know about him, aside from the fact that he’s an excellent designer, he speaks mostly in rhymes, and I’m 99% positive he’s a ghost of some sort.
You see, every year, on Halloween night, I write a list of products that I hope to have in time for Black Friday, and I place it under my bed. This year was no different:
When I wake up on November 1st, I find a little magical hard drive in place of my list. And on that hard drive is an abundance of new designs and products to pick from alongside a pleasant note from Mr. Black himself.
Like I said, as you can see, this year was no different. Well, except this year the additional note he left made me feel a little guilty. And scared:
And, well, I want to come clean now. You hear that, Mr. Black. I’m COMING CLEAN! I KNOW YOU READ! So anyway, this year, this season, I would like to appropriately rename Black Friday on my website to "MR. BLACK FRIDAY" as TOGETHER we will be releasing some BRAND NEW merch exclusively for my “MR. VAULT SALE! Rare Prints! Artist Proofs!
My VAULT-SALE officially starts/opens on Oct 6 at 12:01AM EST exclusively here in the shop. I will be selling a VERY LIMITED amount of some of my favorite prints from my personal collection that have long since sold out. A lot of these are Artist Proofs and pieces from my personal collection. If there are any specific prints that you have been looking for, or missed when they were available, check out this entire menu of what I will have available. I color-coded the prints so that the RED ones are VERY limited, the YELLOW ones are somewhat limited, and the GREEN ones are still limited, but I have a few on hand. Use this menu to plot any specific prints you want.
My suggestion is that, if there's one that you REALLY want, you should try to purchase that FIRST before even adding any other prints to your cart, because adding it to your cart doesn't guarantee that you will get it until after your payment processes.
Anything that doesn't sell by Oct 13 is going BACK in the vault until who-knows-when!

Greetings from the tropical and sterotypically weird place that is Florida. I’ve moved a lot in my life. From San Francisco, to Sacramento, to LA, to Oakland, and to Orlando, Florida, to name a few. And not too many things have joined me on ALL of those journeys. But you know who HAS been there the whole time? The entire 20 years? A little armless happy critter known as BUNNYWITH. Bunnywith has been a main creative outlet and escape for me for 2 decades now, and I am extremely excited to announce the release of my BRAND NEW 100 PAGE “BUNNYWITH” ART BOOK!
Originally debuting a few weeks ago at Comic Con, I had NO idea that all 300 copies would SELL OUT before the con was over, but they did, and that made me insanely excited to rush the second run into production to continue sharing this little collection of demented bunny-hoarders.
