Over the course of 6 years, I would occasionally paint a quick watercolor portrait of one of my favorite movie “monsters” as a little therapy break. This side project quickly became an obsession in revisiting every movie I loved growing up and making myself smile along the way. Last year, all 185 paintings were collected individually and published in my latest art book, called “Doppelgängers”. However, now, all of these maniacs are finally hanging out at the same party. All 185 of my favorite monsters on one giant horrific print.

FULL COMIC CON RELEASES AND SCHEDULE!!!

My favorite time of year is almost upon us. A time when you can don a cape with pride. A time when you can wear a fanny pack as a genuine utility belt. A time when you can yell “I’M MR. MEESEEKS LOOK AT ME!” and people respond with “You’re AWESOME, Bro!” instead of running the opposite direction. 

Yes. The Mardi Gras of NerdDom that is COMIC CON will be emerging from the grounds beneath San Diego and entering our dimension for 5 days, transfixing 200,000 of us into drooling fanboys fueled off of free flyers, giant bags, and the slim possibility of running into Daryl Dixon at a urinal.

And this year, for my 15th time in 16 years, I WILL BE THERE alongside two of my best, most creative friends, Dave Correia and Jon Wayshak at our usual location, BOOTH 5502 located right inside the main “A” Entrance (or as we have referred to it as, right inside the “A-Hole”). Our 20-foot long booth will be packed with purchasable-nightmares from the 3 of us, so PLEASE make sure you come by our booth AT LEAST ONCE in your epic journey of zombie-dodging, line-sitting, nacho-eating and joker-spotting.

THE ASTRALNAUTS HAVE LEFT THE PLANET...FOR NOW

Well, "THE ASTRALNAUTS" art show has officially ended, and there's not much more to say aside from THANK YOU!!! It was an amazing ride, and Matt and I can't wait to continue expanding the Astralnauts universe. If you couldn't see the show in person, or if you would like to visit it again in 2-Dimensions, our good friend PAUL ANTHONY put together this awesome video walkthrough of the gallery and of opening night. 

Greg Aronowitz sculpts my GHOST!

The incredible Greg Aronowitz and his magical team of fabricating wizards created the centerpiece for our "ASTRALNAUTS" art show at Gallery 1988 in LA (which is still on display until June 25th, check out the whole show online HERE). The work Greg usually does in the movie and TV industry is phenomenal, but I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this WYATT sculpture he did was. So so so great. Watch him and his team at Barnyard FX create Wyatt from scratch in this video below. If you have a chance to see Wyatt in person at the gallery YOU SHOULD GO! HE WILL LOVE YOU!!!! (so will we).

"THE ASTRALNAUTS" OPENS THIS FRIDAY!

I’ve been spiraling out of orbit for the last few months. Dodging emails, avoiding sleep, and having Chloe hide my phone randomly inside of my 97 hollowed out Cabbage Patch Kids that I have carried with me for years, all for one reason, and that reason is finally coming to fruition in just a few days! The reason? Dun-dun-dunnn…I’M PREGNANT!.... Ok, well, that’s not true. Although I have tried swallowing a uterus in hopes that it attaches itself into my stomach lining and evolves, allowing me to carry a dinky little lifeform that craves pickles, it’s unfortunately still medically impossible for me to have a baby. But, I AM birthing something into the world this Friday! Or rather, I should say, WE are birthing something into the world this Friday.

On Friday, June 10, at renown pop-culture Gallery 1988(West) in Los Angeles, California, one of my best friends, MATT RITCHIE, and I are presenting a brand new show filled with almost 100 drawings, paintings, wood carvings, dioramas, scribbles, stories and even a ridiculously whimsical sculpture installation from our special guest, GREG ARONOWITZ.

“So, is that ALL?”

NO, Shark Tank Hosts, that’s definitely not all! We have also partnered up with collectible pin company YESTERDAY’S and we will have a bunch of limited pins to go along with the art and the story!

Working together with Matt on this project has been incredible since the moment our parents married each other and we were forced to share bunk beds and then found out we were best friends and that we should do an art show together.

Although I have always focused on creating new worlds and new narratives for each art show I do, this is the first time I have created a world together with someone I admire, and because there was two of us being weird, and being inspired but different things, it made the property and the work that much more expansive. This is the biggest, most focused show I have done in 5 years! And I can’t wait to share it.

If you are anywhere near LA this Friday, June 10, at 7PM, please come join Matt and I (and Greg, too, if we untie him!) as we unveil our new world filled with ghosts, aliens, haunted planets, spaceships, jokes, and a cybernetic dolphin.

Alex Pardee x Matt Ritchie present "The Astralnauts" Art Show

Long story short, the amazing Matt Ritchie and I are collaborating on a brand new art gallery show.

Now, not many people have the opportunity (or the ability) to time-travel. But Matt and I wanted to venture out of our comfort zone in order to seek out inspiration for our upcoming art show, so….we went into the future. Sure, it wasn’t the most pleasant thing to do, even alongside one of my best friends. Our lungs collapsed from the change in time-velocity, Matt vomited blood almost the entire trip, my skin dried out almost to the point of leprosy, and we’re both now convinced that our stomachs and bowels are permanently turned around 180 degrees. But regardless, it was worth it, just to get a glimpse of the future and to soak up some knowledge, some observations that we could bring back with us to help jumpstart ideas for our new show. We only spent a day in the future (the year 2119), but there was one HUGE noticeable discovery in the future that gave both of us an instant shot of inspiration. It turns out, in the year 2092, after 2 thousand years of speculation and skepticism, scientists are going to discover that, indeed, ghosts and spirits are REAL. Yes, that’s right. Hauntings, possessions, apparitions, poltergeists. All of them are real, and they live among us, as well as ALL of the other inhabited planets in our galaxy. But not only are they real, they are also mischievous, and some of them are downright evil.

And with that little glimpse of the future that Matt and I witnessed, we will be bringing you the world of “THE ASTRALNAUTS”, a motley crew of 5 of the galaxy’s most heroic and renowned ghost-hunters. Together they travel from planet to planet, capturing and containing extraterrestrial ghosts from all corners of the universe.

"THE ASTRONAUT IS NO LONGER DEAD!!!!"

I’ve been wanting to share this project for SO LONG my head almost exploded in literal Scanners-fashion.

In just a few days, Douglas Farmer, AKA “The Astronaut” will land back here on earth and he will be available for you to give him a good home! 

Douglas Farmer spent 21 years training for a 30-second spacewalk in the outer rim of Mars. But while floating in the atmosphere, all communication blacked out, and Douglas returned, well…changed. You can read some diary entries from Douglas’ wife HERE that give some more ominous insight into what Douglas experienced, but that’s NOT why I am sharing this newsletter! Nope! What I REALLY want to tell you is that I teamed up with the appropriately astronomical masters of art-toys, TOY QUBE, and together we created a collectible memorial toy celebrating Douglas Farmer, my favorite astronaut!!

On sale MAY 10th at 1PM EST at toyqube.com (and many other vinyl toy stores online) and limited to 200 figures, “The Astronaut” is based off of an original painting and story by me, stands 10” tall, is cast in extraterrestrial ooze, and will cost $130. And, as an extra special space-bonus, an exclusive “Day One Edition" (cost $145) will be available ONLY ON MAY 10TH AT TOYQUBE FOR 24 HOURS ONLY! The Day One Edition will come packaged with…well…something special!
